Yesterday was a busy day for Tallman volunteers, handling a total of 5 calls including a large brush fire and a residential structure fire. At 17:55 while clearing an outside electrical fire, Tallman, along with Suffern and Mahwah Co. 2 was alerted to a structure fire in the Airmont section of town. Chief Stevens arrived and found heavy smoke pushing from the attic and requested a retone for a working structure fire. First due crews forced the front door and stretched a hand line into the first floor and advanced into the attic where they encountered heavy heat and smoke. Additional lines were stretched into the living room where crews pulled the ceiling discovering heavy fire. 20-Tower set up to the roof and performed vertical ventilation providing improved working conditions for the crews in the attic. Members were able to successfully rescue 2 large dogs and 5 cats from inside the house. Tallman was assisted by the Suffern, Mahwah, Monsey, and Spring Valley fire departments at the scene while Hillburn covered our district for additional calls. Pictures from various sources.
